How To Invest a Little Time Into Your Lips

Dry lips are not only unattractive but they can become painful and prone to bleeding. For most people, resolving an issue with dry chapped lips just requires devoting a little time and care towards your lips. Here are some tips that will help you resolve your dry lip problems.

Stay Hydrated
Drinking the proper amount of water is required to keep your body functioning properly. Not drinking enough water can result in symptoms like fatigue, weakened immune system, dry skin and headaches. Dehydration will not only cause dry skin, but it can also cause your lips to be dry. It is recommended that you drink at least 8, 8-ounces glasses of water a day, which equals out to about half a gallon of water a day. Drinking at least 8, 8-ounce glasses of water a day will assure that you are properly hydrated.

Invest in a good lip balm
One of the most obvious ways to resolve dry lips is to use a moisturizer. Choosing a good lip balm for your lips can assure that your lips are receiving the moisture they need. Your lips are not equipped with oil glands like your skin, which means they require a little bit more attention and care than other places on your body. If you are someone prone to allergies, you may want to stay away from lip balms that are filled with artificial ingredients. Using a lip balm with all-natural ingredients will normally cost more, so whether you want to use a lip balm with all-natural ingredients or one with artificial ingredients mixed in to save money, it is up to you. Some common ingredients you will find in lip balms on the market are shea/cocoa butter, jojoba oil, beeswax, Tocopherol(Vitamin E) and Sweet Almond oil/macadamia Oil. Shea/cocoa butter is great for moisturizing, jojoba oil is full of vitamins and easily absorbed, vitamin E is packed full of antioxidants, sweet almond oil/Macadamia oil helps to soften and soothe lips and beeswax helps your lips retain moisture. Using a CBD lip balm is also one option. CBD has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-material properties, which is great news for your lips. You’ll need to apply about 6 to 8 coats of lip balm throughout the day. One coat will need to be applied when you wake up and another coat will need to be applied before bed.

Nighttime routine
Most people have a nighttime routine they follow to take care of their skin and hair, but your lips may not be on that to-do list at the end of the night. Exfoliating your lips at least once or twice a week at the end of the day will remove dead skin and make your lips soft and smooth. You can use a homemade exfoliate or store-bought exfoliant. A toothbrush is an excellent tool to exfoliate your lips with. Using the toothbrush, you simply want to exfoliate your lips in a circular motion and rinse with water once you are done exfoliating.

Avoid licking your lips
When you find your lips are dry, licking your lips may be your first response, but licking your lips will actually dry them out more. Saliva evaporates quickly, and any moisture on your lips will evaporate along with your saliva.

Underlying medical condition
If nothing you try will resolve your dry lips problem, you may have an underlying medical condition. Cheilitis is caused by an infection or an inflammatory disease . Certain medicines, malnutrition and supplements can increase the dryness of your lips.

Trying it out for yourself
Whether your lips are dry because of the weather or because of a tendency to lick your lips, the following tips should help relieve your lips dryness. If none of the tips you find online are helping, you will need to see a medical professional to find out if you have an underlying condition causing your lips to be dry.
